Schwentke Set For ‘The Finest Hours’

RED

Walt Disney Pictures are currently in negotiations with RED and forthcoming R.I.P.D. director Robert Schwentke to helm a big-screen adaptation of  Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougia’s 2009 novel, ‘The Finest Hours: The True Story Behind the US Coast Guard’s Most Daring Rescue’.

The project, expected to have the simpler title of THE FINEST HOURS, has a script coming from Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson. They’ve adapted the best-selling non-fiction book set in 1952 in which a number of the United States Coast Guard risked their lives in an attempt at a dramatic rescue when a pair of oil tankers collided off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, during an epic raging storm.

We’ll keep you posted as the production comes together.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
