Mary Steenburgen Plus Anne Hathaway Equals ‘Song One’

Mary Steenburger 800x600

Principal photography on SONG ONE began today as it was announced that the brilliant Mary Steenburgen has joined the production as Anne’s Hathaway’s mother.  Due out in 2014, SONG ONE tells the story of a young woman who strikes up a relationship with her brother’s favourite musician while said brother is in a coma.  It is the debut from writer/director Kate Barker-Froyland and we’re pretty delighted here at THN that she’s chosen the multi-talented Johnny Flynn to play the role of the musician.

For those unfamiliar with Flynn; he fronts English folk-rock band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit but is also an accomplished stage actor.  Nominated for an Oliver Award for his performance in Jez Butterworth’s ‘Jerusalem’ he has just finished starring as the lead in Bruce Norris’ ‘The Low Road’ at The Royal Court.

Steenburgen is a household name who has been in more films and shows than you could shake a stick at, from CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and 30 ROCK to WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE, PHILADELPHIA and ELF.  She won an Academy Award in 1981 for Best Supporting Actress in MELVIN AND HOWARD; the same award her co-star Hathaway has just picked up this year for LES MISERABLES.

With a stellar looking cast already lined up we are excited for a trailer to emerge for SONG ONE; perhaps a Hathaway/Flynn duet will be on the cards.
