First Look At A Redesigned Optimus Prime For ‘Transformers 4’

Earlier this morning, we showcased two of the sleek and stunning metallic stars of Michael Bay’s soon-to-shoot sci-fi/action sequel TRANSFORMERS 4, as well as confirming a brand new cast member. Now, director Bay has now also provided the first look at the “completely upgraded, custom-built Optimus Prime from Western Star (a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America).

I’ve a real soft spot for Bay’s first brainless blockbuster, possibly due to my love of the 1980s cult cartoon, but the subsequent sequels had me leaving the cinema with a blooming thumping headache and confusion at which bloody robot was which, such was the overly complex crushing carnage onscreen. Fingers crossed an overhauled TRANSFORMERS 4 will offer something more than just empty, loud explosive action.

The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing and T.J. Miller, and is expected on 27th June 27.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
