Nicolas Winding Refn’s ONLY GOD FORGIVES recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a very mixed reaction for the anticipated reuniting of the DRIVE director and his lead Ryan Gosling. It centres on drug-dealer Julian, a man running a kickboxing club in Thailand after going on the run for murdering a US police officer. However, he is forced into an extreme act of revenge by his sadistic crime lord mother (Kristen Scott Thomas), when his brother is killed by a corrupt cop.
In this latest clip from the film, Winding Refn proves it’s probably not a good idea to bring your girlfriend to meet your acid-tongued mother when she’s just lost her first born son.
ONLY GOD FORGIVES is released in US cinemas 19th July and the UK from 2nd August.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
