While Samuel L. Jackson’s Director Fury played a minor part in Marvel’s solo outings, his role really became integral in Joss Whedon’s epic superhero ensemble, THE AVENGERS. However, his appearance is again a whole lot more prominent in the currently-shooting CAPTAIN AMERICA sequel, THE WINTER SOLDIER, which interestingly being described by the studio as a ‘political thriller’ in the Tom Clancy mould.
It’s said the latest adventure will merge two comic-book arcs, one that sees Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) former friend, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) resurrected as deadly assassin of the sub-title by a villain known as Crossbones (being played by Frank Grillo), as well as elements of ‘Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D‘, in which the top secret government operative is forced to go on the run, soon seeking help and teaming up with the patriotic super soldier.
These new images from the Cleveland set feature Jackson’s character showcasing some brutal war wounds amongst the explosive carnage. A few more can be found over at Mail Online.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Cobie Smulders, Maximiliano Hernandez, Gary Shandling and Robert Redford. It’s directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and it’s set for release 4th April 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
