Shooting on the upcoming POLTERGEIST remake begins in Toronto, Canada in September with Gil Keenan (director of the suitably-named animated hit MONSTER HOUSE) at the helm of the spooky thriller. It’s being produced by Ghosthouse Pictures’ Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Roy Lee, from a script by David Lindsay-Abaire, Juliet Snowden and Stiles White.
Plot details have emerged that the story will follow the newly named Eric Bowen. A recently laid off man who relocates to a new town to find work along with his wife, Amy, and daughter, Madison. However, young Madison is mysterious abducted, forcing him to realise the only important thing in life is his family. Coming in handy is the revelation that his wife has the gift of being able to communicate with the dead. POLTERGEIST will also feature a television personality, Carrigan Burke, who hosts a paranormal show investigating haunted homes and offers to help the family by bringing in his parapsychologist ex-wife and her team of supernatural specialists.
Many have been left wondering why change the details and names of the Freeling family, previously played by JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson and the late Heather O’Rourke in the 1982 original and 1986 sequel. Well, word is, like the recent EVIL DEAD, that this will be a reboot of sorts but will exist in the same world. Perhaps even in the same house as one scene will reveal a connection to the previous events and tormented family.
