Kibwe Tavares Short Film ‘Jonah’ To Get Online Release

Kibwe Tavares

Stray Bear Productions and Factory Fifteen have announced that JONAH, the second short film by Kibwe Tavares, will be getting an online release from the end of May.

After Kibwe’s first short film ROBOTS OF BRIXTON received 500,000 online hits, it went on to win a special jury prize at Sundance 2012. This new short tells the story of Mbwana, a Zanzibarian beach boy who creates a myth which transforms his small town into a tourist hot spot. Backed by Film4, Channel 4’s Alpha Fund, BFI and Shine Pictures, and in association with Jellyfish Pictures, JONAH is an extravagant mix of live action and animation, portraying the human cost of progress. Written by Jack Thorne and starring Daniel Kaluuya, Louis Mahoney and Malachi Kirby, this isn’t one to miss.

The film will be part of the 2013 Sundance shorts tour, travelling to US cinemas through summer/autumn 2013. It will be live and free to view on the Film4 website from 31st May – don’t forget! For more information visit: www.film4.com/jonah

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
