While Warner Brothers’ JUSTICE LEAGUE remains lodged firmly between rock and hard place, it seemed as though Guillermo del Toro’s JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK would be the DC super-team most likely to go head-to-head with Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS.
A recent update from del Toro himself suggests that JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK is itself no sure thing either. On one hand teasing a line-up which includes Constantine, Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman and Zantanna, the PACIFIC RIM director also revealed that he has yet to receive an official greenlight from the studio.
The script a work in process — the specifics kept secret to keep spoilers to an absolute minimum — del Toro explained that if Warner Bros. like the results he’ll helm the film. If not, however, this could be another of his many abandoned or simply unfinished projects; a long list which at this point includes AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, HELLBOY III and remakes of Stephen King’s IT and PET CEMATARY.
While at Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex Festival on Saturday, the director also mentioned his upcoming adaptation of Naoki Urasawa’s MONSTER, saying that he had submitted his pilot script to HBO, and that — if picked up — it will be very faithful to the 18 volume source material.
