Chloe Grace Moretz Confirmed As Female Lead In ‘The Equalizer’

Chloe Grace Moretz

Easily the best series I grew up watching during my 1980s youth was THE EQUALIZER. There was just something majestic about the late Edward Woodward putting his retired skills to use as former operative Robert McCall in helping those in desperate need. Possibly the closest we get to see in the same spirit on American television is the Jonathan Nolan-created PERSON OF INTEREST, which I find is heavily inspired by the show which ran from 1985-89.

Well, we’ve had Denzel Washington penciled in for some time now for the big-screen reboot but a number of directors have come and gone. DRIVE’s Nicolas Winding Refn and RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ Rupert Wyatt were both interested before negotiations fell though. We now know TRAINING DAY and OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN’s Antoine Fuqua will helm the action-thriller and reunite with his Oscar-winning lead for the first time since 2001.

We can also now confirm Chloe Grace Moretz, soon to be seen in KICK-ASS 2 and Kimberly Peirce’s CARRIE remake, will portray the helpless character of the main plot. She’s reported to be not dissimilar to Jodie Foster’s tragic teen in TAXI DRIVER. Meaning the script could be a gritty one as opposed to the straight-up actioner many were expecting. Fingers crossed for some MAN ON FIRE-style mayhem on the streets of New York after she impressed during script readings with Washington

Craig is leading the charge as our north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
