A Serkis Chimp On Horseback & First Logo From ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’

After the Tim Burton misfire, we never thought we could take another monkey movie seriously. Certainly not one with ‘Planet’ and ‘Apes’ in the title. Thanks to Rupert Wyatt’s excellent franchise reboot a couple of years ago, we can again get excited at the prospect of another adventure involving chief chimp Caesar and his ascent from caged primate to evolutionary antihero.

Sadly, Wyatt is not involved this time around but CLOVERFIELD and LET ME IN’s Matt Reeves could be just the man to up the ante. The plot this time is set 15 years later is officially is as follows:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES stars Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Toby Kebbell, Enrique Murciano, Judy Greer and the returning mo-cap master Andy Serkis. It opens 23rd May 2014. Check out the first production still from Reeves, which began shooting earlier this week, as well as the new look logo.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
