Marvel’s Phase II has only just got underway with the release of IRON MAN 3 but whispers are suggesting a little unrest behind-the-scenes regarding a number of key acting personnel not happy with their offer to return to the Marvel cinematic world. Word is IRON MAN star Robert Downey Jr. is currently renegotiating a contract with the studio for future appearances in their AVENGERS sequels but is said to not want to return for another solo feature. While both Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans are said to have laughed off their pay increase (rumoured to be a paltry $500,000 each) in the superhero collaborative ensemble which will close this second phase.

Despite those problems, Marvel are keen to push ahead with plans for THE AVENGERS 3 as well as in development scripts for MS. MARVEL, DOCTOR STRANGE, IRON FIRST and THE RUNAWAYS. Certainly a number of their lesser known comic-book characters. It has also been revealed that since the rights have reverted to Marvel from New Line Cinema, they’ve had a screenwriter working on a reboot of half human/half vampire BLADE.

Kevin Feige has also said recently there are currently no plans for spin-off films for the characters War Machine (played by Don Cheadle in the last two IRON MAN outings) or Falcon (Anthony Mackie in the currently shooting CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER). However, lets also not forget Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN, which is expected to open Phase III and James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, the precursor to THE AVENGERS 2.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
