One film released last year that received a mountain of criticism was Timur Bekmambetov’s ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER. A bonkers tale of the legendary 16th US President’s extracurricular (supernatural) activities that I blooming well loved. I think it’s sometimes forgotten that you visit the cinema, more often then not, for a fun time and I was certainly rewarded with that even if others didn’t feel the same.
We now have word that that films lead, Benjamin Walker, is in final negotiations to join Chris Hemsworth (THOR) and Tom Holland (THE IMPOSSIBLE) in director Ron Howard’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA, currently in pre-production over at Warner Bros. It will be an adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick’s fact-based 2000 novel about the infamous whale attack on The Essex, which was the true story that inspired Herman Melville’s best-seller Moby Dick.
Walker will play a character named George Pollard, an arrogant son of the whaling family who attempts to use his privileged family name to gain captaincy. However, he soon puffs chests with Hemsworth’s shipmate Chase. The ship was stalked and destroyed by a sperm whale, leaving the eight survivors of lost at sea for 90 days.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
