Over the last few weeks we’ve had James McAvoyTom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard all linked to the lead of resurrected, revenge-seeking rocker Eric Draven in Relativity Media’s reboot of 1994’s gothic classic THE CROW. The studio are hoping to kick-off a brand new franchise based on the Dark Horse comic book by James O’Barr. The original was directed by Alex Proyas but will forever be remembered as the film that claimed the life of its lead, Brandon Lee, during an tragic on-set accident. The less said about the sequels and television series, the better!

However, we now have confirmation Welsh actor Luke Evans will don the pale make-up and black costume as the lead in the film being directed by F. Javier Gutierrez. Evans has fast making a name for himself in Tinseltown with projects due in 2013 including action sequel FAST & FURIOUS 6, twisted slasher NO ONE LIVES and Peter Jackson’s return to Middle-earth with THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG. He’s also recently put pen to paper on an origin tale based on Bram Stoker’s DRACULA for Universal and will appear on the small screen, playing notorious Great Train Robber Bruce Reynolds in a forthcoming BBC mini-series.

Will Evans reach your heights flying as THE CROW? As ever, give us your thoughts. The film will shoot early next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Why bother rebooting The Crow while each new iteration of the character is essentially a reboot in itself?

i really don’t get it either. That’s pretty much how the premise works.
