Zack Snyder’s sci-fi fantasy reboot of DC comics iconic superhero MAN OF STEEL looks fantastic and genuinely epic in tone and scale. Despite coming in the same summer season as IRON MAN 3, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and PACIFIC RIM, it’s surely going to be the film to beat this year. Having THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy’s Christopher Nolan and David Goyer ushering its path to the big-screen can only be a bonus.
The plot tells of Kal-El’s origin from innocent Kryptonian newborn, forced from his own planet on the brink of destruction. Landing on Earth and adopted by the loveable Jonathan and Martha Kent, he learns his past has made him a little different from others. However, with the arrival of the menacing General Zod and ruthless cohorts, he soon realises the need to come to the rescue of a defenceless new home world.
MAN OF STEEL will burst into cinemas from 14th June and is led by Henry Cavill. Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Christopher Meloni and Antje Traue also co-star.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
