Having picked up the Best Director award for his superb modern fairytale DRIVE at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, Nicolas Winding Refn’s intense follow-up, ONLY GOD FORGIVES, will also premiere at the prestigious event in France next month. The revenge thriller is again headlined by a moody Ryan Gosling, who portrays the surviving son of Kristen Scott Thomas’ vicious organised crime lord who wants the cop (Vithaya Pansringarm) who killed her favourite son to pay the ultimate price.
Check out these new clips (underneath the official synopsis) for the film arriving in the US 19th July. However, there is still no date for the UK.
Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristin Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.
