French Poster Revealed For ‘Only God Forgives’

If you know me well enough you’ll know I’m a HUGE fan of Mr Ryan Gosling, and in my honest opinion there’s nothing sexier than seeing him all mysterious and moody, exactly like in the new French poster for ONLY GOD FORGIVES.

Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (the man behind the brilliant DRIVE) and co-starring Kristen Scott Thomas and Vithaya Pansringarm, ONLY GOD FORGIVES tells a tale of bloody murder, revenge and familial allegiance. The official synopsis is as follows:

Bangkok. Ten years ago Julian (Gosling) killed a cop and went on the run. Now he manages a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. Respected in the criminal underworld, deep inside, he feels empty.

When Julian’s brother murders a prostitute the police call on retired cop Chang – the Angel of Vengeance (Vithaya Pansringarm). Chang allows the father to kill his daughter’s murderer, then ‘restores order’ by chopping off the man’s right hand.

Julian’s mother Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas) – the head of a powerful criminal organisation – arrives in Bangkok to collect her son’s body. She dispatches Julian to find his killers and ‘raise hell’.

Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release… but Chang triumphs. A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.

Check out the poster below and you can watch the trailers here. The film is set to premiere at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, with a US release date of 19th July 2013. No word as of yet of a UK release date.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
