New ‘After Earth’ TV Spot & Stills

Earth Day was just a couple of days ago, which may have been a better release date for AFTER EARTH, a science-fiction film from M. Night Shyamalan, but then I guess it would be going up against the similar themed OBLIVION. AFTER EARTH sees a father and son, played by real life father and son Will and Jaden Smith, crash landing on Earth 1,000 years after humans left it once it became uninhabitable. Just their luck that the whole planet has evolved to “kill humans”, which seems odd since humans left the planet 1,000 years ago. I guess evolution holds a grudge. In fact, that would be an awesome tagline.

The TV spot is kind of exciting, but let’s face it, if Shyamalan’s name is on it, you approach it with caution. And I’m one of his defenders. This could be a fantastic action science-fiction adventure, or it may be just a preachy, misjudged attempt at some guilt squeezing from humanity. Should have just called it NATURE GOES BALLISTIC.

AFTER EARTH is released 31st May in the US and 7th June in the UK. It stars Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Isabella Fuhrman, Sophie Okonedo, and Zoe Kravitz.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

So, lemme get this straight: evolution makes the other species able to fight a predator who HASN’T BEEN AROUND since more than a millenium? This is one of the stupidest premises I’ve ever read! How can someone who started so good with his first movies end up sinking so low?
