SPOILER ALERT! If you for some reason haven’t seen THE AVENGERS…on a side note, if this applies to you…seriously just see the damn thing!
Ever since Agent Coulson’s supposed death in THE AVENGERS, people have speculated as to how Coulson would appear in the upcoming Marvel TV show AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Now the man himself, Clark Gregg, has commented on the whole situation and it would appear that he will be resurrected in some way. Speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival where he is promoting his film TRUST ME, Gregg commented on his upcoming return to the Marvel world.
When Joss described to me the mystery that takes place in Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and the complexity and the unanswered questions about Phil Coulson standing there trying to deal with this, I found it so fascinating and so true to the world of the comics and mythology in general as I understand them that I was immediately in.
I don’t know how you could not change going through what he went through. I think if he hadn’t gone through some kind of change, it wouldn’t be any good. That said, I don’t know if he understands how much he’s changed.
Sounds like he could maybe be slightly darker than he was in Marvel’s Phase One, as to whether his new status back amongst the living is being hidden from The Avengers themselves after his ‘death’ seemingly united the group, Gregg genuinely doesn’t know but he does suspect that might be the case.
It would be surprising to me if this was a world where there wasn’t some reckoning for the fact that it’d be … you know, some level of deception must have been perpetrated on the Avengers.
You can check out the full interview with Clark Gregg below, let us know what you think about these latest developments in the comments.
