The Internet Has Spoken: Hayley Atwell For ‘Tomb Raider’?

Hayley Atwell Tomb Raider

Videogame franchise TOMB RAIDER recently saw a fresh reboot on consoles, and what better to follow that up with than a rebooted big-budget blockbuster franchise? It appears Hollywood and I think alike, as that’s exactly what’s in motion as we speak. Or type.

The previous two films, both based on the iconic videogame series, starred Angelina Jolie as adventurer Lara Croft. Obviously she won’t be returning for the reboots, and fans seem to be having their say over on the old Twitterverse about who should replace her. One name that keeps popping up over and over again is that of Hayley Atwell, who you may remember from 2011’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.

You may be thinking that this is a bit of a non-story and just the wishful thinking of a few film fans. But what’s curious is that Atwell herself has been retweeting some of those recommendations, suggesting she’s already actively seeking the part:

Of course, nothing’s set in stone at the moment, but her previous role in CAPTAIN AMERICA shows her talent for the kind of action that TOMB RAIDER would demand of her. It’s an interesting choice but one that, as the masses of Twitter seem to slowly be realising, could work brilliantly.

Meanwhile, cult-actor-if-ever-there-was-one Nathon Fillion has been talking up (also on Twitter) the fact that he’d very much like to play a Spider-Man villain:

Fillion’s usually one to take the hero role, as we’ve seen in his perhaps most well-known venture FIREFLY, so it would definitely be interesting to see him in a villainous role. But then again, with Joss Whedon now swept up in the superhero extravaganza, perhaps we’re more likely to see him taking on a role in a Marvel Studios film rather than THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3.

Would you hire Atwell and Fillion for these roles? Pretend you’re a casting director and let us know in the comments below. And as always, stay tuned to THN for more info as we get it.
