Wally Pfister is packing out his cast for his big directorial debut TRANSCENDENCE, adding another firm Christopher Nolan regular in Morgan Freeman. Freeman joins the likes of Johnny Depp, Kate Mara, Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany in the film, which we don’t actually know a lot about plot wise, but you may remember a couple of months ago that The Wrap posted a script summary. BEWARE OF SPOILERS at the end of that link!
The plot involves a scientist whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself. Depp will play a scientist named Will who is trying to create artificial intelligence. Will’s wife, Evelyn, is another scientist and the pair work with a third, Max. From there, the film’s plot is said to focus on, “singularity, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.”
We’re all massive fans of the Pfister over here at THN, particularly his cinematography work with Nolan on the Batman trilogy and on the excellent INCEPTION.
Jack Paglen wrote the script for TRANSCENDENCE, which according to the IMDB is his debut feature following a couple of well received shorts. TRANSCENDENCE has a release date already set for April 25th 2014, so production better start soon for the filmmakers to have any chance of hitting that date (I suspect we may see that date adjusted).
