Here is the UK trailer for black comedy BERNIE, starring Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey and Jack Black.
The SCHOOL OF ROCK star reunites with the director of that brilliant comedy (which is TEN YEARS OLD now! What the Hell, man!) Richard Linklater for an all together darker comic tale. Based on a true story, it tells the story of Bernie Tiede, a sweet young man and very popular member of the local community who befriends an elderly dowager named Marjorie Nugent (MacLaine), whom everyone hates. So he bumps her off and takes advantage of her wealth and absence, but local DA Danny Buck Davidson (McConaughey) thinks something ain’t right.
It sounds like a cross between THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN and WEEKEND AT BERNIES, and has been met with the acclaim that such a comparison should draw (we love both those films. And what, fam?). Though it is yet to debut here in the UK, it was first seen in the US back in 2011 and the legendary Roger Ebert gave it 3 and a half stars out of 4, and said ‘Why did (Linklater) make BERNIE? I suspect he read the magazine article and knew it was a natural movie. Anyone could have seen that. His genius was to see Jack Black as Bernie Tiede.’
