Tim Burton is all set to direct the true life courtroom drama BIG EYES. The film will focus on Walter and Margaret Kane, an artistic couple famously known for painting pictures of big eyed children during the 1950s and 60s. After a bitter divorce in 1965, the two enter a dispute over who actually painted the pictures which eventually led to a paint-off in court. If you’re unfamiliar with the story we wont ruin the outcome here, but of course you can find all the information you need on the Internet.
Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are currently in negotiations to play the warring couple, which will make a nice change from Burton’s usual casting of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. The script is written by Burton’s ED WOOD collaborators, Larry Karazewski and Scott Alexander, whom originally intended to direct the project themselves with Burton as a producer. When they were sat in the director’s chair, Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon were set to star.
This sounds like it could be that great film that Burton really needs right now, and it will allow him to step away from his recent overuse of CGI and kooky imagery. Hopefully he can look back at his work on ED WOOD and give us anothe emotionally affecting comedy.
