No, THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES isn’t Pixar’s latest effort at anthropomorphism where drums, guitars, and keyboards come to life away from the eyes of watchful humans. Instead, it’s the latest adaptation of YA (Young Adult) literature, which is all the rage thanks to TWILIGHT and THE HUNGER GAMES. The first two character posters, as seen below, show us stars Lilly Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, who play Clary Fray and Jace Wayland respectively. The film will see Clary Fray (Collins) journey into a New York underworld populated by demons, werewolves, vampires etc. in order to save her mummy. It’s kind of like TAXI DRIVER, but you replace the pimps and whores with mythological creatures. I guess you never know which way a teenage aimed fantasy film like this is going to go, but with the recent box-office failure of THE HOST in the US, it has proven this to be a very fragile genre.
THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES is released 23rd August. It stars Lilly Collins, Lena Headey, Aidan Turner, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kevin Zegers, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand, Jared Harris, and Jemima West.
