After bringing a close to his Batman franchise, Christopher Nolan has helped get MAN OF STEEL off the ground (Get it? Because Superman can fly?) as well as lending support to his cinematographer and friend Wally Pfister, as Pfister gets his directorial debut, TRANSCENDENCE, ready to shoot. But now it’s time for Nolan to focus on his own damn work, and his next directorial offering will be INTERSTELLAR. Like always, the project is shrouded by mystery, but what we do know is it will probably involve scientific travel of some kind. The script was written by Christopher’s brother, Jonathan Nolan, and was originally intended for Steven Spielberg to direct.
Aiming for a November 2014 release date, means that Nolan is now thinking about casting and it is being reported that Matthew McConaughey has been offered the lead. McConaughey had an amazing year last year, with BERNIE, MAGIC MIKE, and KILLER JOE, showing exactly what the man is capable of. It also makes an unexpected deviation from the leads that Nolan usually casts. Nothing is set in stone just yet, with McConaughey filiming an anthology drama for HBO, TRUE DETECTIVE, alongside Woody Harrelson at present. Fingers crossed he’ll accept the parts, but if he says no, then Nolan can always cast Michael Caine.
