First Look At Clooney & Damon On Set Of ‘The Monuments Men’

George Clooney is back behind and in front of the camera for his first film since the gripping political thriller, THE IDES OF MARCH. THE MONUMENTS MEN will document the true story of the “greatest treasure hunt in history”, as it follows an American World War II platoon tasked by the President with secretly going into Germany to rescue priceless works of art and masterpieces stolen by the Nazis. An entirely unique spin on the war genre for one of histories previously untold stories.

Another epic, all-star ensemble includes Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, Diarmaid Murtagh, Hugh Bonneville as well as Clooney and Matt Damon, who both appear in these images from the set in Palais am Festungsgraben in Berlin, Germany.

Clooney, along with collaborating partner Grant Heslov, adapted the screenplay based on the novel, ‘The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History‘ by Robert M. Edsel. It’s released in the US on the 13th December and the UK from 1st January in the UK. One of the early Oscar contenders? We think so!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
