My favourite drama of this year is definitely going to be the on-set antics of JANE GOT A GUN. After Lynne Ramsay allegedly didn’t show up for work (although we’re positive there’s more to that story), the film quickly put WARRIOR director Gavin O’Connor in charge. However, Jude Law, who had signed on to work with Ramsay, quickly left the project. Law had originally been drafted in to fill in the role vacated by Joel Edgerton after Edgerton was given the lead role due to Michael Fassbender having to depart because of scheduling conflicts with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
Now the hunt is onto quickly recast Law’s part before anyone else jumps ship. Three names we’re hearing this morning are Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Jeff Bridges. It is reported that O’Connor wants somebody with an international brand that looks good in a hat. Bridges has obviously done the western thing in TRUE GRIT, Maguire had a go in RIDE WITH THE DEVIL, and Gyllenhaal was in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. If age is important to the role we’d guess Bridges is the dark horse of this race, and Gyllenhaal and Maguire both appeared with star Natalie Portman in the remake of BROTHERS.
JANE GOT A GUN will see Portman turning to an ex-lover (Edgerton) after her husband is mortally wounded. She and her husband need protection from the villain (the role that still needs to be cast). I’m glad O’Connor has taken over from Ramsay, as WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN is one of my least favourite films of the last few years, whereas WARRIOR is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

My guess would be Jake G to be the chosen one.
