Rumour: Matt Smith To Leave Doctor Who?

Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith

A fresh rumour mill has started on the Interwebs concerning Matt Smith’s imminent departure from DOCTOR WHO, after four years in the role under über-writer Steven Moffat.

According to The Sun – just bear that in mind- Smith’s contract is due to be renewed in November, but he’s rumoured to be giving up the keys to the TARDIS at that point.During an interview with Jonathan Ross, (again, bear that in mind)  Smith didn’t commit to anything beyond Christmas, stating that:

“I am very happy doing it. I do the anniversary special, then the Christmas special. At the moment it’s 2013 and we will see what 2014 holds.”

But according to the Sun the actor told his bosses that he wants to leave at Christmas. In response, the BBC has stated:

“Sorry folks but even we don’t know what’s going to happen at Christmas. It’s not been written yet! But Matt loves the show and is to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and the new series starting on Easter Saturday.”

A lot of these rumours involve Smith’s apparent desire to break into Hollywood, having filmed new movie HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER , due to be released next year.

More news as it develops. What we do know for sure is that Matt Smith will return as the Eleventh Doctor in ‘The Bells Of Saint John’ on 30th March, which features the debut/return (delete as appropriate) of Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new Companion, Clara Oswald, and will be reviewed on this fair site.
