It appears plans are well underway for the big-screen adaptation of the saucy novel that had ladies around the globe asking themselves, “Why can’t my man treat me like a princess just like Christian, and put it up my arse for a change?” Universal Pictures hired screenwriter Kelly Marcel to pen E. L. James’ filthy best-seller, FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, following their acquisition of the rights early in 2012. However, there has only been rumours and wishful thinking about who we’ll see romping.
Despite having not bothered my backside to read the novel, it would be a risk for any big-name to take the risqué roles of billionaire Christian Grey and the naughty, naive virgin, Anastasia Steele, and I wholly expected to see some up and coming talent make the leap from a nobody to no clothes. It’s going to be a hit with the housewives whomever appears. However, a group of hackers have said to have discovered several leaked documents which infer Harry Potter actress Emma Watson is currently attached as the female lead. A speculative favourite amongst many.
Universal have since came back with a rebuttal, saying “no one has been cast yet“, but they didn’t deny that Watson is indeed attached.
As for the role of kinky hunk in the title, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and LOST actor Ian Somerhalder has been asked if rumours linking him to the project are true. He refused to confirm or deny any involvement, adding “There are so many young boys up for this role, I can’t say anything other than it’s a very interesting story“.
