Has McAvoy Let Slip Nightcrawler’s Return In ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past?’

X-Men Days Of Future Past NightcrawlerWith such a huge cast already announced for the time-bending sequel that is Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, the fan community has been going wild by guessing just about every character they think may return. But one has been asked about more than others, and that is fan favourite Nightcrawler, the blue, German, teleporter. Nightcrawler appeared in X2 and was portrayed by Alan Cumming. Nightcrawler didn’t return for the sequel X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, and word is that Cumming wasn’t looking forward to the extensive make-up process again. The absence of Nightcrawler was explained in a tie-in video game.

So far whenever Singer has been asked about Cumming’s involvement, he has kept fairly schtum. However, with so many people involved now, one was bound to say something, so when James McAvoy was asked about the latest installment he said:

The cast is huge. You got me, [Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender,] Nicholas Hoult will be back.Patrick Stewart, Ian Mckellen, Halle Berry, Alan Cumming. Peter Dinklage I hear mentioned – I don’t know if that’s happening. Hugh Jackman is coming by. He’s massive.

McAvoy may not be the most reliable source though, as he doesn’t sound too sure about the involvement of Peter Dinklage, who has been confirmed by Singer himself. The comment on Jackman is also interesting, as the phrase ‘coming by’ makes it sound like a brief cameo. Which wouldn’t be surprising with such a huge cast. Let’s just wait and see, but secretly hope that Cumming does return, as I’m sure we all want to see the relationship between him and Mystique develop, as well as giving us some closure to the character.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is set for release 18th July 2014. It will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Ian McKellen.
