It came as a bit of a surprise recently when I discovered every DIE HARD sequel had began life as an stand-alone action flick before characters names were changed to incorporate John McClane and his wise-cracking charm. It’s a shame nobody working on the latest entry thought to give the script for OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN a tweak, following John Moore’s woeful, Russian-set sequel, A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD. It couldn’t have been any worse. If you’ve yet to see the trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s new action-thriller, it’s effectively DIE HARD in the White House, and looks a barnstorming guilty pleasure.
The all-star cast sees 300 hunk, Gerard Butler as a off-duty Secret Service Agent attempting to save the President and his staff when foreign terrorists invade the iconic address. Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Radha Mitchell, Rick Yune, Robert Forster, Angela Bassett, Ashley Judd, Dylan McDermott, and Melissa Leo co-star in the film hitting the US on the 22nd March and the UK 19th April.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
