With SKYFALL being a huge critical and commercial success there was no doubt that the producers wanted director Sam Mendes to return to the helm of the next instalment in the long running franchise. Now Mendes himself have however categorically denied that he will continue on as he had the following to say on the subject:
It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie. Directing SKYFALL was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.
Sam Mendes has always been quick to point out that he would only do the one Bond film, but with SKYFALL’s success many hoped that he could be convinced to give it another go. Of course this does not rule out that Mendes could return to the franchise sometime in the future, similar to how GOLDENEYE director Martin Campbell did with the sublime CASINO ROYALE, but for now it appears that the producers must find another person to guide James Bond through his next mission. Let the speculation as to who that might be commence!

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.
