Steve Coogan returns to our movie screens later in the year as his iconic TV character Alan Partridge, but before all of that he will be seen as British porn king Paul Raymond in THE LOOK OF LOVE. Raymond is the man responsible for gentlemen’s publications like Razzle and Men Only, among many others which I have absolutely no experience of in my young life, other than when I’ve glimpsed and eyeful of them blowing in the wind after they’ve been dumped in a field somewhere. However, the film itself focusses in on the man behind the magazines, clubs and huge property portfolio which made him the richest man in the country. Here’s the synopsis.

“After starting his show business career as a mind-reader in a cabaret act, Paul Raymond went on to become Britain’s richest man and a modern King Midas. With an entrepreneurial eye and a realisation that sex sells, he began building his empire of gentleman’s clubs, porn magazines and nude theatre – provoking outrage and titillation in equal measure.

Raymond’s personal life was as colourful as his revue shows. His marriage to Jean, a nude dancer and choreographer, ended in a difficult divorce when he met Fiona – a glamour model who became the famous pin-up star of his magazines and shows. His daughter Debbie was the true love of his life, his business partner and heir to his empire – until her tragic and untimely death aged 36. Three weeks later Raymond was named Britain’s richest man and his fortune put at 1.5billion.”

Our mates over at HeyUGuys have posted some new images from the film, which arrives in UK cinemas on 26th April, and in the USA later in the year (TBA). Anna Friel, Imogan Poots, Tamsin Egerton, Chris Addison, Stephen Fry, Dara O’Briain, James Lance, Shirley Henderson, David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Simon Bird, Kieran O’Brien, Miles Jupp, Peter Wight, and Matthew Beard also appear. Huge cast. Michael Winterbottom (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, 9 SONGS) directs from a script by Matt Greenhalgh (NOWHERE BOY).

Paul has been writing for film websites for over ten years. The Hollywood News was born out of love for film and his frustration at not being a very good filmmaker himself. Those who cannot do, write about – or so they say. Aside from the site, Paul has directed a music video (badly), has one credit to his name on the IMDb, enjoys running, driving (now that he has finally passed his test at the age of 33), and of course going to the movies.
