EPIC is the next animation from Blue Sky Animation. It seems like a less than subtle eco-friendly tale about protecting the forest, with more than a few nods towards FERNGULLY: THE LAST RAINFOREST and AVATAR. It sees a young woman dragged into a world of little forest men in the midst of a battle with Mandrake and his cronies. I must admit, despite my reservations towards the story, the animation and vocal performances seem fantastic. Apart from those annoying slugs, they’ve already made the top of my ‘Most Hated Characters of 2013’ list. Everyone has one of those.
The film will be Chris Wedge’s first film since 2005’s ROBOTS. He was also the man responsible for the first (and most superior) ICE AGE.
EPIC is released 24th May. It stars the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Amanda Seyfried, Steven Tyler, Beyonce Knowles, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Aziz Ansari, and Christoph Waltz.
