‘Resident Evil 6’ Confirmed & Release Date Set

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Despite knowing bugger all about the video-game it was based on, as well as a critical mauling it took, I found Paul W. S Anderson’s first RESIDENT EVIL effort a whole lot of brainless fun. Sadly, I can’t say the same for the seemingly endless sequels that followed. Woeful springs to mind as the Umbrella Corporation undead hordes descended into nothing more than a boring, wasted mess, with Anderson gathering a supporting cast next to real-life wife, Milla Jovovich, that looked about as interesting as the terrible, fake-looking 3D, the franchise now has turned to.

The last effort, RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, may have set up another sequel but few doubted it would go ahead after disappointing box-office returns in both the US and UK. However, the film was another success in Asian territories, going on to a worldwide gross of $222 million even before DVD/Blu-ray release.

We can now confirm RESIDENT EVIL: WHATEVERITSGOINGTOBECALLED, has now been given the greenlight by Sony Screen Gems, and although it’s yet to be announced, Anderson and Jovovich are both expected to return. A release date of the 12th September 2014 has been set, giving Anderson more than enough time to complete his period disaster epic, POMPEII.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
