Not seen since 1974’s ‘The Monster of Peladon’, the Ice Warriors are returning to Doctor Who later this year, with a newer, much leaner and more refined appearance.
Unlike the recently (re)re-introduced Daleks, Silurians and the Cybermen, the production team have been remarkably faithful to the original design. The only notable difference is the hands. They actually seem to have them now. (Back in the day they were lumbered with big old LEGO hands…)
Whether these New Ice Warriors will be the war-mongering sort from Patrick Troughton’s era, or the more peaceful, violence-hating-unless-it’s-self-defence kind seen in later stories, remains to be seen. What is known is that they debut in the third episode, written by Mark (SHERLOCK, A HISTORY OF HORROR) Gatiss and directed by Douglas (2007’s JEKYLL) Mackinnon, rumoured to be set aboard a Russian submarine in the 1980s.
DOCTOR WHO SERIES 7 is set to continue 30th March, and will be reviewed on this good (great!) site.
