IRON MAN 3 has a new trailer with more action than ever, but that’s just not enough. We want to know more, and we want to know what’s next in Marvel’s universe of awesomeness. One of the staples of Marvel’s Phase 1 was the after-credits scene. IRON MAN first introduced Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and the whole idea of The Avengers Initiative, THE INCREDIBLE HULK had its post-credit scene moved to just before the credits so the film could capitalise on Robert Downey Jr.’s appearance, IRON MAN 2 showed us THOR’s Hammer, THOR teased the cosmic cube, and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER gave us a look at the THE AVENGERS. Since we’re a bunch of impatient scallywags, and despite the fact we haven’t even seen IRON MAN 3 yet, we want to know what the end will hold. If anything.
In an interview with Collider, Marvel Studio’s president Kevin Feige was asked if it was now an obligation to add a post-credits sequence to every Marvel movie:
It’s sort of case by case. I don’t want to be in that theater for the first time when even 2 people stay behind and nothing happens, frankly. I like that we’ve trained at least some people to stay behind and get a little reward, but you’re absolutely right it served a different purpose. It was a part of the, “Hey surprise, these are connected. We’re building towards something here.” Shawarma, which everyone knows famously was an idea we came up with much, much later and shot after the premiere just because we thought it would be fun. There was not going to be a tag until that point. So it’s a little faster and looser now because people know, and frankly the whole purpose of Iron Man 3 is to say that these characters can exist just as successfully on their own again. But, as I said I don’t want to be there when nothing happens after people sit through 8 minutes of credits.
I always enjoy a good after credits scene, but I do find myself battling with whether or not to sit through the extensive credits. It’s not that I don’t wish to show respect to all those that helped make the film, I just have a tiny bladder. By the sounds of it, IRON MAN 3 will probably have one, but may not be a connection to THOR: THE DARK WORLD or any other Marvel film.
IRON MAN 3 blasts onto screen on 26th April 2013. It stars Robert Downey Jr, Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Paul Bettany, Jon Favreau, William Sadley, and James Badge Dale.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
