The rumours have long persisted that the end of Marvel’s Phase 2, THE AVENGERS 2, would be inspired by the comic book storyline, ‘Planet Hulk’. In the storyline, The Hulk is banished to another planet for causing too much destruction and the rumour was that it would all lead to a Hulk solo film and ultimately to THE AVENGERS 3 which would be based on the storyline ‘World War Hulk’ in which The Hulk returns to earth to do battle with the other heroes. Now Joss Whedon however has categorically denied the rumours in a recent interview. When asked about the sequel he said, ‘Well I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense.’
With his recent comments about the difficulty in making a Hulk solo film, it might not be super surprising if the story turns out to be something completely different, although we have to remember that Whedon’s comments may end up being nothing more than a smoke screen to throw us all off the scent. No matter what story it turns out to be, it’s certain that it will make a ton of money and I for one is exciting to see how they continue their cinema universe.
