Fede Alvarez’s remake of the classic Sam Raimi movie EVIL DEAD arrives on these shores on 19th of April, and in the US a little before on 8th April, and I know there are literally armies of fans awaiting its gruesome debut (including our own little horror army on THN). The first TV spot for the film has just been released via ShockTilYouDrop.com and it features very little footage from the movie, but does rely on a lot of audience reaction shots, just like we’ve seen over the years for the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY movies etc (they’re probably just watching the trailer judging by their viewing location). Still, it’s more fuel for people to get amped up for the April release.
Five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
The film actually premieres at the SXSW Film Festival this weekend in the US, and I do know we at THN get to see the film very, very soon, so embargo permitting, we’ll be able to share our thoughts on the reboot in the not too distant future.
EVIL DEAD is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell.
Here’s the new TV spot.
