Mira Nair, director of MONSOON WEDDING, tackles a politically and socially charged thriller with THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST. The excellent Riz Ahmed (FOUR LIONS) plays a Pakistani man who gets an excellent job at a big American corporation. However, afetr 9/11 he finds himself subjected to racism and prejudice. Flash forward, and he is being interviewed by Liev Schreiber over a kidnapping. Is Ahmed really a terrorist? Or is this all a huge misunderstanding? We’ll find out soon. The trailer certainly does this film a service by showing what is potentially an intelligent thriller in tune with our times.
THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST is released 19th April in the UK and 26th April in the US. It stars Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schrieber, Nelsan Ellis, and Om Puri.
