From THE DARK KNIGHT to a whole new kind of adventurous heroics, Welsh actor Christian Bale is reportedly set to play a real-life thrill-seeker in the tentatively titled EVEREST.
Bale is linked to the upcoming film from Universal Studios which focuses on the fatal 1996 expedition to climb Mount Everest through a devastating storm. The trek resulted in the deaths of eight members of the team on 11 May of that year. Little else is known about the project, including whether or not director Baltasar Kormakur could potentially use author Jon Krakauer’s “Into Thin Air” as the source material for the film.
Rumour has it that Sony is working on its own Everest tale, albeit with a plot centred around British climber George Mallory who attempted, on multiple occasions, to be the first man to reach the top of Everest back in the 1920s. There is some speculation that Sony is set to cast Tom Hardy in the lead — Bale’s co-star and on-screen nemesis in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
Can Bale scale Mount Everest and into box office glory first? Only time will tell.
