The biggest night in the movie calendar is landing this weekend. That’s right, it’s my annual Watching The POLICE ACADEMY Movies night. That’s bad news for a little event known as The Academy Awards. But for anyone thinking of tuning into that, here’s a brief history lesson in the form of a stirring montage. It comprises clips from all 84 Best Picture winners from over the years, so try not to blink and play the name game. I wont spoil it for you, but when they stack these greats up next to each other you have to wonder about all of the Academy’s oversights. The film that beat BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN doesn’t even deserve a second viewing, yet alone an Oscar. The montage ends speculating which nomination will take the 85th slot.
Edited together by Nelson Carvajal, this is a great reminder of the power of film. I wouldn’t mind seeing such a montage for all the films ever nominated for the big one. Or perhaps the Foreign Language winners.
