James McAvoy is currently shooting the action-packed mutant pre-sequel, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (due next summer), but the Scottish actor has a host of exciting projects lined up for 2013.
If Danny Boyle’s psychological heist thriller TRANCE, or, Irvine Welsh adaptation, FILTH, isn’t enough to whet appetites, there is also the bold, dual drama, THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY, which will be two features based on the same subject, but told from the perspective of two different characters. Failing that, how about Eran Creevy’s Tony Scott-inspired Brit action-thriller, WELCOME TO THE PUNCH.
The latter sees McAvoy as a resolute cop who discovers his nemesis (Mark Strong) – who evaded capture to foreign shores – has been forced to return to the UK, after the crook’s son lands on life-support. This gives his dogged detective the chance to finally put the career criminal behind bars by tracking him down in the Capital. WELCOME TO THE PUNCH hits UK cinemas from the 15th March, although a US date is still to be announced.
Check out this first clip and television spot for the film co-starring Peter Mullan, David Morrissey, Andrea Riseborough, Daniel Mays, Jason Maza and Johnny Harris.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
