No matter what you say about A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, it was always going to pull in the punters at the box-office. No matter how much you tell someone not to go and see the film, they will still go. Hell, I would simply because its a DIE HARD movie. THN are hearing early word from across the pond in the US that the film has bagged a very respectable $33.2 million since its Valentine’s Day release (last Thursday), or a very good $25 million over the conventional three day weekend. That figure will rise as the US enjoys a holiday weekend this weekend, so expect for more fans to visit their local multiplex on Monday…

Me, I’m still reeling.

A film called IDENTITY THIEF starring Jason Bateman and BRIDESMAIDS star Melissa McCarthy is in its second week out there and bagged the number two spot on the chart with $23.4 million over the three days (and $70m+ total) with SAFE HAVEN opening to $21.4m and $30.2 million including the Thursday – which I will remind you that it was V-Day and SAFE HAVEN is from Nicholas Sparks, the writer of gush-fest THE NOTEBOOK. At four was 3D computer-animated alien adventure ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH from The Weinstein Company and rounding out the top five, the zombie comedy WARM BODIES, which could also be considered a rom-com.

Here’s the top ten in full. We’ll bring you the UK figures on Tuesday.
