Oliver Parker To Take Us Back To WWII With ‘Dunkirk’

With the announcement earlier today that David Ayer is taking on WWII with FURY, we’ve got more news from the era with the announcement that JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN director Oliver Parker is turning his hand back towards drama with DUNKIRK.  Parker isn’t exactly known for his serious nature, as he’s also been behind directorial duties with ST TRINIAN’S and and the woefully average DORIAN GRAY.

Despite his early direction taking place with Oscar Wilde works, we’re pretty unsure how he’ll take on the real and serious nature of WWII and Dunkirk, especially when you consider it was on the most important moments in world history but we’ll judge further when it comes to the actual production and I’m more than sure he knows that this can’t be messed around with. Well, I bloody well hope not.

The film is backed by the awesome Working Title UK with a script by Gavin Scott, who also wrote SMALL SOLDIERS, and hasn’t exactly been prolific but maybe this is a chance for both of them to redeem themselves in the serious side of movie making. Just a personal opinion, of course and I can tell you one thing, this is going to be very different to David Ayer’s!
