A writer and director I feel never gets enough credit, Brian Helgeland has been responsible for some of modern cinemas greatest screenplays. L.A CONFIDENTIAL, MAN ON FIRE and MYSTIC RIVER anyone? His latest effort sees him back behind the camera for sporting biopic, 42. The simple title refers to the number worn by baseball icon Jackie Robinson, a legend in the game not only for his skill on the field but for also breaking the controversial colour barrier.
Helgeland’s film will chart respected Coach Branch Rickey’s (Harrison Ford) struggle in forcing the sport to take a long hard look at itself after spotting the youngster playing in the amateur Negro Leagues. Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) went on to become a superstar in baseball and changed the game for the better, forever.
Check out this super poster for the film garnering early rave reviews and word newcomer Boseman is said to be incredible. We’ll find out when 42 is released in the US on the 12th April, while a UK date is still to be confirmed.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
