Director of THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE (2005), THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (2008), and the upcoming SINISTER, Scott Derrickson, is reportedly set to helm a paranormal police thriller called BEWARE THE NIGHT. The film has no relation to WE OWN THE NIGHT even though the lead role was apparently offered to Mark Wahlberg who turned it down. BEWARE THE NIGHT sees a New York police officer investigating paranormal cases such as possessions, exorcisms, and werewolves. The project is being fronted by Screen Gems but rumour suggests that Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney are involved somehow.
The story sounds to me like any number of paranormal TV shows. THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL wasn’t exaxtlygreat, but Derrickson showed real signs of talent with THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and word on SINISTER is very good so far. You can check out THN’s Firghfest review of SINISTER here.
