THE MATRIX creators Lana and Andy Wachowski will soon begin production on the sci-fi epic JUPITER ASCENDING, which, as we already know, will have Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in the lead roles. The film is rumoured to have an astonishing budget of around $200 million, which is surprising given the huge commercial failure of their multi-layered, all-star fantasy, CLOUD ATLAS.
JUPITER ASCENDING is set in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the queen of the universe. We can now confirm British favourite Sean Bean has joined the cast, with him playing a character named Stinger who is being described as a ‘Han Solo-type’ character. It’s also expected LES MISERABLES warbler Eddie Redmayne is also in talks and hoped to be confirmed soon.
CLOUD ATLAS is set to be released here in the UK on 22nd February with a budget of around $100 million. However, so far it has only recouped a quarter of that since opening in the US last October. Add to their spectacular flop SPEED RACER, and it’s astounding The Wachowski’s are still handed such mega budgets. We wait with intrigue for the film’s release next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
