Stand Alone ‘Star Wars’ Film For Yoda?

Star Wars Yoda Spin OffIf the people at Lucasfilm and Disney thought announcing J.J. Abrams as director of the new STAR WARS sequels would calm us fans down, they are as mistaken as Obi-Wan Kenobi when he said Luke Skywalker was the Jedis’ last hope. With word of Zack Snyder’s SEVEN SAMURAI (The Greatest Film Ever Made), inspired STAR WARS film being quashed as nothing but wagging tongues, then how about this little nugget? Rumours are circulating that Yoda may be getting his own stand alone project.

Yoda is of course 800 years old at the time of his death, so there is plenty of material to mine. Perhaps it could go back to his college days, or maybe see him working as a photographer for the Jedi Times. WHO KNOWS? And that’s what’s most exciting about the idea. At least a year before the sale of Lucasfilm and the STAR WARS franchise was even announced, Joe Johnston discussed his desire to make a Boba Fett film. How about a number of stand alone projects that lead up to an AVENGERS style mash-up, which could be the SEVEN SAMURAI inspired idea. Have a number of bounty hunters, Jabba the Hutt, Lo-Bot, and that guy with a hairy arse for a mouth all band together to protect a vulnerable planet from some evil Trade Federation types. You know you want it.

We’ll keep you informed about any concrete news, and if the facts are anywhere near being as fun as these rumours, the STAR WARS universe could be about to explode.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
