Grandiose Trailer For HBO’s ‘Phil Spector’ Biopic Starring Al Pacino & Helen Mirren

Always a controversial figure in the media world after the claims of former wife Veronica Bennett (and lead singer of THE RONETTES), there is no doubt music producer PHIL SPECTOR was a master in the industry, with a string of legendary hits through 1960s-80s. His latter years were even more deviating after being portrayed as a wacky personality with a peculiar set wigs, making him almost a pantomime villain during the trial in which he was eventually convicted of the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.

HBO are behind a biopic of the disgraced man, which will chart his downfall from musical pioneer to egotistical murderer, from a script from the ever-excellent David Mamet, who also directs. Al Pacino takes the infamous role, alongside a superb supporting cast including Helen Mirren and Jeffrey Tambor. Check out this fascinating first trailer.

PHIL SPECTOR will air on HBO in the US on the 24th March. No word yet when we in the UK will see it, but we’ll keep you posted.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
