As a huge BLUE VALENTINE fan (it’s my #1 favourite film besides ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND) I was more than happy to learn that Ryan Gosling would be teaming up with Derek Cianfrance for the second time for THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES. With just over two months to go, excitement is rife, especially as a selection of brand new stills have been released and spread across the internet.
Gosling stars as Luke, a motrocycle stunt driver who travels across America with a circus. When they land back in New York, Luke decides to meet up with his old girlfriend Romina (Eva Mendes), only to find that she’s had his baby. Desperate to be a good father and to form a proper relationship with his son, Luke finds a job as a car mechanic, working alongside Robin (Ben Mendelsohn). But when Robin learns of Luke’s insane skills on a motorbike, he gets other ideas. The pair decide to team up and perform bank robberies, but it’s not long before they encounter the police, with officer Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper) determined to catch them.
I love pretty much everything Gosling has done so far (bar maybe MURDER BY NUMBERS…) and Cooper really impressed me in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, so this is definitely on my Must Watch list.
Co-starring Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Dane DeHaan and Emory Cohen, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES tells the story of what happens when two men from opposite ends of society cross paths, and how the consequences can last for generations. The film will arrive in US cinemas on 29th March and in the UK from 12th April.
Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
